CALGARY FESTIVAL ON HOLD
Exofest II: The Calgary International Horror Film Festival was officially put on hold Saturday when the hosting venue decided to tell the organizers they could not use their theatres just under 48 hours before the first film began play. It seems that a few of the entrees in this years line up were just too extreme. While there remains to be no ‘official’ explanation from the theatre on why they pulled their support, I decided to dig a little deeper and call the festivals director for his take on the situation.
Summed up, it is his understanding that 3 of the films to be screened made the venue ‘very nervous’ due to their graphic nature. These movies were said to include from Japan: Ichi The Killer and Visitor Q, and making its World Premiere from the U.S., August Underground:Mordum.
An alternative venue is currently being sought out. I have been told that in NO WAY is the festival cancelled. It is just delayed for a week or two. I will keep my ear to the ground, and fill you all in with the details as soon as they come available.
Special Thanks to our very own Garth for the report…
