BONT TO DIRECT MEG
Variety reports that Jan de Bont will direct MEG, the long-in-development film based on Steve Altens novel about a Carcharodon megalodon, the huge prehistoric ancestor of the great white shark, that surfaces in the present day. De Bont, whose last feature was LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADLE OF LIFE, was the first director attached to the U.S. GODZILLA remake and also dealt with watery thrills in the ill-fated SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL. MEGs production team includes Guillermo del Toro, his HELLBOY partners Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin, CHUD.com honcho Nick Nunziata and Ken Atchity, whose management/production company Atchity Entertainment International recently formed a home video division, with product to be distributed by Victory Records. First up for the label is a Halloween collection of movies by exploitation vet Ted V. Mikels: MARK OF THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES, DIMENSION IN FEAR, FEMALE SLAVES REVENGE, THE CAULDRON: BAPTISM OF BLOOD and DIRECTING MOVIESACTION TO WRAP will street October 21.
