KANEFSKY HYDES IN THE SORORITY
With his latest horror release THE HAZING terrorizing video and CORPSES coming November 30 from York Entertainment, filmmaker Rolfe Kanefsky is busy with a whole slate of future fright flicks. ‘My new feature JACQUELINE HYDE is almost complete, and will be screening twice at the American Film Market,’ Kanefsky tells Fango. ‘Its a modern female take on DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE; I describe it as Robert Louis Stevensons story crossed with LOOKING FOR MR. GOODBAR, where the heroine/villainess is able to transform into different womenand men. It stars and was co-produced by Gabriella Hall, with a great cast of up-and-comers like Blythe Metz, Jeremy Ordaz, Eva Derrick and a cameo by Robert Donavan. Jeff Farley and Chris Bergschneider did the effects, including a lot of very creative deaths; toward the finale, theres a scene reminiscent of SOCIETY, where two people meld into one. Theres also a sort of homage to Cronenbergs THE FLY in there. It was produced by Gabriellas Pixie Flicks Entertainment and my own company, Valkhn Films. If all goes as planned, I hope to do a slate of three horror films next year for Valkhn.’ You can check out JACQUELINE HYDEs official website here.
Kanefsky also reveals that hes taking part in the current horror redux craze: ‘Producer Richard Mann has made a deal with Liberty to produce a slate of five or six films. Many of them are remakes of well-known and not-so-well-known horror flicks from the 80s; first up is a remake of HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW, and Ive just been attached as director. Also in the pipeline are MUTANT, THE UNINVITED [the Greydon Clark killer-kitty film, not the Ray Milland ghost opus] and possibly THE POWER and WITHOUT WARNING. There are scripts and treatments in development for all these projects right now.
‘Also, my script THE HOST is in serious consideration as a bigger-budget horror thriller,’ Kanefsky continues. ‘Its about a group of college students into the occult who conduct a seance and contactsomething! Now one of them is not who they seem, and people start dying. Using their skills with Ouija boards, crystals, voodoo dolls and tarot cards leads them to the mysterious killer and the demon inside!’
In between all this movie work, Kanefsky was one of the first interviewees for a program to air on The Scream Network, which is scheduled to launch this Halloween. ‘The show is hosted by Felissa [SLEEPAWAY CAMP] Rose and is called SCREAMOGRAPHY,’ he says. ‘The show starts airing around the second week of November, and myself and [HAZING star] Tiffany Shepis are among the first guests.’
