CORN KIDS STILL IN HIDING?
Moviehole reports:
A good year or so ago, ‘Darkness Falls’ penner Joe Harris announced that he’d be working on the next ‘Children of the Corn’ film – ah, ‘Children of the Corn 8’. So whatever happened to that?
‘Children of the Corn ‘the untitled sequel’ is very much in film limbo, so you’re assumption is correct. I had written a second draft of the script which Dimension was very happy with but, I am told, such projects have been languishing on the shelf’, Harris says on his official site.’I’d still love to make it happen since it was (and remains) a very cool little horror movie that incorporates more ‘Lord of the Flies’-type tribal elements to the children, shying away from the neo-Amish stuff a bit and getting to the primal nature of the juvenile killers… but we’ll see.’
As much as we probably don’t need to revisit ‘Corn’ country, I’ve gotta admit : I’m keen to see what Harris cooks up for it. Ok, ‘Darkness Falls’ sucked. It did. But if you ever saw the original short film that Joe did – ‘Tooth Fairy’ it was called, the one that inspired the latter film – you’ll know he’s got a crafty imagination. ‘Darkness Falls’ mightn’t have done him any favours, but if he’s doing some big-screen celluloid, sans studio interferrence, I lay a double-downer down saying he’ll whip up something pretty slick.
Meantime, Harris has returned to his roots – doing spiffy short films – with his latest ‘Witchwise’ due to be unleashed pretty soon. There’s production sketches of it up here. We’ll let you know when that hits the www.
