LECTER TO EAT AGAIN
According to the New York Daily News, Hannibal Lecter will return sooner than expected when Bantam Dell publishes Thomas Harris BEHIND THE MASK in fall 2005. The novel will serve as a prequel to the cannibals previous chronicles RED DRAGON, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and HANNIBAL. In a statement, publisher Irwyn Applebaum says, ‘Millions of readers in 25 languages have wondered how Dr. Lecter developed his particular appetite for evil. This novel will satisfy their curiosity.’ Its nice to see Harris writing faster these days. It took the author 11 years to follow-up 1988s SILENCE with HANNIBAL in 99. Dino De Laurentiis, who produced HANNIBAL and two film versions of RED DRAGON, will bring Harris BEHIND THE MASK to the screen as well. For the cinematic prequel/sequel, Hopkins may appear in a cameo. Who would you cast as the young Hannibal Lecter? Jude Law perhaps?
