U.K. FUND NEW HORROR
Variety reports that the U.K. Film Council has awarded development money to a number of British productions, including a few horror titles. The most exciting of these is THE DARK, the first feature from director John Fawcett since he reinvented the werewolf genre with GINGER SNAPS (hes helmed episodes of the alien-abduction miniseries TAKEN and QUEER AS FOLK, among others, in the interim). No plot details are available yet on THE DARK, a Welsh chiller to be produced by RESIDENT EVILs Jeremy Bolt and Constantin Film.
Other projects to receive funds under the program are a remake of the Vincent Price classic THE WITCHFINDER GENERAL (a.k.a. THE CONQUEROR WORM), which Charles Sturridge will direct for producer Selwyn Roberts and executive producer Francesca Barra (the trio last collaborated on the Emmy-winning A&E miniseries SHACKLETON), and GHOSTHUNTERS, in which a parapsychologist enlists a psychic girl to communicate with the dead. That movie will be directed by John McKay and produced by Lee Thomas.
