MORE ON FREDDY VS JASON 2
Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash? Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Leatherface? Michael Myers? Chucky? How about Angela Baker from the Sleepaway Camp movies? How about none of the above? The Corner just spoke to an insider at New Line Cinema, somewhere between Robert Englund and Bob Shaye and someone whos directly involved with the greenlighting of any Freddy Vs. Jason 2 film, who told us that Freddy Vs. Jason 2 will not feature, at least not at this point in development, any franchise creatures besides Freddy and Jason. Looks like Ash is toast. ‘Were developing Freddy Vs. Jason 2 and neither Ash nor any other franchise creature will be included in the project,’ says the insider. ‘Wish us luck with it. Hope this one doesnt take ten years.’
You have to admire New Line for not rushing a Freddy Vs. Jason 2 film into production which would be the easy thing to do, and the most profitable. You also have to admire them for not taking the easy way out and going with Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Leatherface although that sounds like it would be the best film especially if they threw in some New Nightmare-type story elements – possibly with Wes Craven, Sean S. Cunningham and Tobe Hooper all being killed by their respective monsters – since it would be hard to mix Leatherfaces world with Freddys and Jasons in a straight horror film without destroying the timelines of each franchise. Then again, its not like were talking about Lawrence of Arabia 2 here, right?
Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash
Despite the completed treatment and all of the chatter from Sam Raimi, always seemed like a non-starter if for no other reason than the Evil Dead films only really appeal to a cult audience which means that Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash wouldnt have much commercial potential beyond the Evil Dead fan base. Army of Darkness, the last Evil Dead film, only made eight dollars at the box office. Now that all of the rumored pairings are seemingly dead, New Line should go back to the roots of each franchise and bring back Alice from Friday the 13th and Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street – anything that gives Jason something to do since he was a virtual bystander in Freddy Vs. Jason. But how do you make an interesting Freddy Vs. Jason 2 film without killing off either Freddy or Jason for good?
