MANCINI DISCUSSES SEED DVD
From the moment the crew, the actors, even craft service arrive on a film-set, the studio is already thinking about the eventual DVD.
No surprise then, that ‘Seed of Chucky’ director Don Mancini knows exactly what will be on the eventual DVD for his pic.
Talking to Bloody Disgusting, Chucky’s pop said the digital versatile disc is going to be a fat offering.
‘[It’ll have] Commentary tracks featuring Brad, Jennifer, David Kirschner, Corey Sienega, Tony Gardner, and myself. The deleted Debbie Carrington scene, with commentary explaining why it had to be cut. A series of hilarious, specially-shot skits featuring Chucky, Tiffany, and Glen. Behind-the-scenes/on-set/ making-of footage. Jennifer’s diary. Video footage of Brad, Jennifer, and Billy Boyd recording the vocal tracks for Chucky, Tiffany, and Glen. An on-camera interview with composer Pino Donaggio. A piece on the animatronics and puppeteers. A piece on our VFX company, STARGATE, and how they helped us transform Romania into Hollywood. The teaser, trailer, and TV commercials. And proof-of-purchase seal, warranty, and customer-satisfaction guarantee’.
Meanwhile, horror fans are hoping that ‘Seed’ is the start of a whole new reign of ‘Chucky’ pics – hopefully, featuring the character of ‘Glen’, Chucky’s kid.
Mancini says ‘wait and see’. ‘Let’s wait and see what the response to SEED is like. But keep in mind that any horror sequel faces the same dilemma: the more you see of these iconic horror characters — whether it’s Freddy, Jason, or Chucky — the less scary they become. In order to go back to our straightforward horror roots, we’d have to retool everything in such a way that would inevitably result in keeping Chucky in the shadows and on the sidelines — in other words, we’re talking about CHILD’S PLAY 6, rather than THE CHUCKY SUPREMACY, or whatever. We’re talking about a movie in which the main characters are NOT the dolls. And I’m not sure that’s what fans really want. Seems to me they enjoy Chucky’s character, and want to see more and more of him, and find out more about him. We’ll see.’
If it goes well, who knows, maybe the studio will be suggesting more – sequel, prequel, spin-off, TV series and instructional sex tapes featuring Chuck and Tiff.
