STARKWEATHER STALKS VIDEO
Velocity Home Entertainment has announced that it will release the latest in the true-serial-killer trend, STARKWEATHER, to video February 15, 2005. Directed by Byron (DEATH VALLEY: THE CURSE OF BLOODY BILL) Werner, who also served as cinematographer, from a script by Stephen Johnston (co-scripter with Chuck Parello of ED GEIN and THE HILLSIDE STRANGLER and with Matthew Bright on TED BUNDY), the film depicts the rampage of Charles Starkweather, a 16-year-old who went on a Nebraska killing spree in 1956 with his 14-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate. This was one of Americas first widely known serial-murder cases and inspired numerous other films, directly (Terrence Malicks classic BADLANDS and George F. Hoods little-seen but worthy STARK RAVING MAD, a.k.a. EXECUTION) and indirectly (Oliver Stones NATURAL BORN KILLERS and Dominic Senas KALIFORNIA). The new movie stars Brent (DETOUR) Taylor as Starkweather and Shannon Lucio as Fugate, with Lance Henriksen in the role of ‘The Mentor.’ The DVD will feature directors commentary and (tentatively) a making-of featurette.
Velocity will also release the sci-fi psychothriller PARANOIA: ONE POINT 0, starring Jeremy (MAY) Sisto, Deborah Kara (CRASH) Unger, Henriksen and Udo Kier, to video January 18, with a DVD featuring a commentary by writer/directors Jeff Renfroe and Marteinn Thorsson moderated by Gio Shanger, who also created a making-of featurette for the disc, and deleted scenes. The company also has Jonas Quastels sequel RIPPER II currently scheduled for April 5, Jay Woelfels GHOST LAKE in May and two more chillers on tap for dates to be determined: James Shanks supernatural chiller DEVILS HARVEST, starring Brian Blessed and Julie T. (B. MONKEY) Wallace, and Boon (ABDUCTED) Collins slasher opus SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE.
