DREAMWORKS TO UNLEASH CASSHERN
DreamWorks has announced that its Go Fish Pictures specialty division, which has previously released the likes of Satoshi Kons MILLENNIUM ACTRESS and Mamoru Oshiis GHOST IN THE SHELL 2, has picked up U.S. release rights to the Japanese hit CASSHERN. A genre-blender merging elements of sci-fi, horror and action, along with live actors and animated backgrounds and FX, the movie is set in the late 21st century after chemical, biological and nuclear war has ravaged the Earth. A geneticist develops a ‘neo-cell’ that can rejuvenate human body parts, but his invention results in the creation of a race of mutants that wage a new, apocalyptic battle against humanity. A huge hit in Japan, the film marked the directorial debut of music video veteran Kazuaki Kiriya, who also scripted with Dai Sato and Shotaro Suga, based on the anime series CASSHAN: ROBOT HUNTER; the cast is headed by Yusuke Iseya, Kumiko (PULSE) Aso, Akira (RAN) Terao and Kanako Higuchi. No American theatrical release date has been set yet, but you can check out the movies official Japanese website, which includes a pretty spectacular trailer, here.
