SCI-FI CHANNEL RIDES THE DEAD RAIL
The Sci Fi Channel and Promark Entertainment will begin shooting the new sci-fi/horror yarn DEAD RAIL next month, under the direction of Turi (CANDYMAN: DAY OF THE DEAD) Meyer. The movie will feature creature FX by Gabe (SKINNED DEEP) Bartalos, and casting is underway. Ray Canella, a Sci Fi Saturday-night original movies exec, gave Fango the scoop on DEAD RAILs storyline, which may remind fright fans of 1972s HORROR EXPRESS:
‘The plot involves a new high-speed supertrain making its inaugural run across the American Southwest,’ Canella tells Fango. ‘A meteor strikes the Earth in close proximity to the rail line the train is using. The trains journey is interrupted as police investigate the crash. At that time, a tiny creature boards the halted train and begins to grow and devour the trains conductor. The monster also damages the trains drive mechanism which causes it to become a runaway. If that isnt bad enough, the creature multiplies shortly after feeding. So before you can say What the f**k? the train is overrun with these ravenous creatures while the passengersincluding a congressional candidate and his retinuemust battle car by car for survival.’
Bartalos will have a full plate of FX on a TV movie budget. ‘This is heavy-duty,’ the artist tells Fango. ‘DEAD RAIL has a transforming alien, alien fetuses and other real gruesome stuff. Its going to be cool.’
