BEOWULF & GRENDEL SITE OPENS
A website for the upcoming BEOWULF & GRENDEL, the latest film adaptation of the epic poem about the Norse hero who battles a marauding monster, has opened up here. Shot on location in Iceland, the movie was directed by Sturla Gunnarsson from a script by Andrew Rai Berzins and stars Gerard (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) Butler and Ingvar Sigurdsson in the title roles, along with Stellan (EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING) Skarsg and Sarah (DAWN OF THE DEAD) Polley. The site has a bunch of crew informationincluding the fact that the special makeup is being created by Daniel Parker, who did the honors on Robert De Niro on MARY SHELLEYS FRANKENSTEINplus storyboards like the one you see above, video clips and more.
Sci Fi Wire, meanwhile, just talked to Butler, who says that this particular Grendel isnt quite as monstrous as in past visualizatins. ‘Weve gone back and said, Just imagine that there was a troll, and were saying, Imagine this troll isnt really a monster, but just another form of human, ‘ Butler tells the site. ‘Hes like a Neanderthal man, more like a primate.’ The actor also raves of the film, ‘Its going to be like nothing youve ever really seen before. This movie has probably the most un-formulaic script Ive ever read, especially coming from America, and thats what grabbed me about it.’ A U.S. distributor for BEOWULF & GRENDEL has yet to be named.
