DESPERATION SET FIRE
The superb Stephen King fan site Liljas Library is reporting that a fire broke out on the Arizona set for Mick Garris Desperation adaptation on Friday.
Filming was taking place in the Tucson Convention Center when the fire broke out, forcing the evacuation of 2,000 concertgoers who were there to see country music star Keith Urban. The Desperation set was taking up one half of the Center, the concert on the other. When the firefighters arrived on the scene, they had to utilize thermal-imaging goggles to find the source of the fire because the smoke was so thick, as well as contend with 6 live rattlesnakes that had been set loose.
Five people were injured but thankfully no one was killed. The biggest losses were to the production, which suffered film, computer, and camera damages due to both the smoke and the sprinkler system. No word on how this will affect filming; I guess only time will tell.
