LIONS GATE’S SCARY SLATE
Over at the Lions Gate Horror site, the company has posted its lineup of 2005 horror video releases, and it looks like the Gates current flood of fear fare isnt abating anytime soon. In addition to the previously reported SAW, CUBE ZERO and THE TOOLBOX MURDERS, the early part of the year will also see the debut of MADHOUSE (pictured) on February 22. Directed by genre acting vet William (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 90) Butler, the film stars Joshua (BLAIR WITCH) Leonard, Jordan (CABIN FEVER) Ladd, Natasha (BLADE: TRINITY) Lyonne and Lance Henriksen; look for a feature story in Fango #240, on sale January 18.
Coming January 25 are SEASON OF THE HUNTED, in which a group of hunters are terrorized by cannibals in upstate New York woods, directed by Ron Sperling and starring Muse (I KNOW WHAT YOU DID) Watson; that DVD will have filmmaker commentary. The same date sees SWITCH KILLER (originally TRANS-AMERICAN KILLER) from the Las Vegas-based makers of the underrated MR. ICE CREAM MAN, director/co-writer Mack Hail and producer Jeremy Settles. It follows a woman who flees her abusive boyfriend to Sin City, only for the guywho has had himself made over into a womanto follow her with murder in mind. The site also reveals that Lions Gate will release not only RIDING THE BULLET but a second Stephen King project, ABCs upcoming three-hour DESPERATION movie, on video. Another TV terror, USAs Mary Shelley updatenow called DEAD KOONTZS FRANKENSTEINis on the roster as well.
Then theres an assortment of new titles with release dates to be announced. DEAD DOLL, directed by Adam Sherman from a script he wrote with Azazel Jacobs, is a black-humored chiller about a sculptor who murders his girlfriend and turns her corpse into his latest work of artonly for her spirit to hang around too.
