MANITOU & MORE FROM ANCHOR BAY
Over at the Anchor Bay website, its announced that the company will release a DVD of William Girdlers 1978 horror film THE MANITOU. Based on Graham Mastertons novel, the movie stars Tony Curtis, Susan Strasberg, Michael Ansara and Burgess Meredith in the story of an evil Native American spirit that manifests as a growing fetus in the back of an innocent woman, leading to grisly deaths and a berserk special-effects finale. While Girdler died not long after the films release in a helicopter accident, Anchor Bay still plans to put together a special-edition package for the disc, which should come out later this year.
Fango has learned that the company will also issue discs of David Schmoellers THE SEDUCTION, with TV reporter Morgan Fairchild terrorized by obsessed admirer Andrew Stevens, and David Wellingtons Canadian chiller THE CARPENTER, starring Wings Hauser (whose memorable sleaze vehicle VICE SQUAD is on Anchor Bays schedule as well). No dates or supplement specifics have been announced yet for these titles, so stay tuned for details. The company has also shifted its Dario Argento discs THE CARD PLAYER and TRAUMA from April dates to August, and has moved Greg Pages New Zealand supernatural thriller THE LOCALS from February to later in the year, the better to give it more theatrical exposure. Speaking of which, the Bay is continuing to play Stevan Menas slasher opus MALEVOLENCE in theaters around the country; go to the movies official website for details.
