New Line Finds Amusement
Variety reports:
New Line has bought Jake Wade Wall’s ‘Amusement,’ purchasing the horror spec preemptively and setting it up with producers Mike Macari and Neal Edelstein.
Wall’s script centers on a traumatized woman who’s questioned by a cop and a psychiatrist about three stories — involving a clown, a hotel and a convoy — that involve her and two of her female friends from childhood.
Wall is penning the remake of ‘When a Stranger Calls’ for Sony’s Screen Gems with Simon West directing, and John Davis, Wyck Godfrey and Ken Lemberger producing.
New Line execs Swanna MacNair, Meredith Finn and Luke Ryan brought ‘Amusement’ into the studio. Production chief Toby Emmerich will oversee ‘Amusement’ along with McNair and Ryan.
Macari and Edelstein co-exec produced ‘The Ring’ and ‘The Ring 2.’ The duo’s Macari/Edelstein Entertainment shingle is producing ‘No Place Like Home’ for New Line, ‘Balls of Courage’ at Universal with Jim Abrahams directing and Pat Proft writing, and ‘The Invisible’ at Spyglass with David Goyer directing.
