Mignola Gives Sequel Update
From Comics Continuum:
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola said that a sequel to the Hellboy movie – already announced by Sony – won’t go before cameras until next year at the earliest.
‘The sequel is not happening yet,’ Mignola said during his panel at Wizard World Philadelphia on Sunday. ‘Guillermo (del Toro, writer/director) and I sat down six months ago and came up with an original story for the sequel. And he’s been off trying to make a film Spain that’s been delayed.
‘Theoretically, while he was sitting over there, he’s written the screenplay. He’s almost finished with it, and he hasn’t turned it into the studio. Once he turns it into the studio, then we start talking about the budget, and then we’ll know.
‘We might know by the end of the year if it’s going to happen. Hopefully, it’s going to happen, but it’s going to come down to the budget.’
Mignola said he expects ‘similar participation’ on the sequel.
‘Probably, I won’t be quite as involved because it’s already on track,’ Mignola said. ‘We know how to do it. The first movie was all about how we translate it. Now we know how to translate it. Now we know how the costumes and all that other stuff work.
‘I have more involvement in that I helped carry the story. I won’t be there as much day to day. Hopefully, that means more comics.’
