BARKER AND HIS PLAYS
It seems like we go through little bursts of Clive Barker news, when all his film projects are suddenly revitalized for a while before falling back into their own private development hell. But there is one aspect of Barker’s numerous talents that doesn’t worry about being in ‘turnaround’ or suffering through multiple ‘rewrites’…his plays.
Barker’s written many plays over his long career, but very few theater companies have had the balls to actually put them on. Sacred Fools of Los Angeles, California, is one group with the required ball girth to bring Barker’s words to life, and like they did last year with Crazyface, so shall they return again with Frankensten In Love or The Life of Death.
Frankenstein In Love is described as ‘an offbeat and disturbing tale of deformed freaks, medical experiments, bloody revolution… and love, sweet love’. Other than that, you just have to know Clive’s mentality, couple that with the title, and I think you an figure out why they aren’t admitting children for this play.
It starts up on September 24th and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout September and October. As an added bonus they’ve tacked on the ‘Thriller/ Suspense/ Drama/ Romantic Comedy/ Rock’n’Roll/ Porn Story With a Heart!’, Frankenstein, Vicki as their late night show.
More info on both plays, as well as tickets and merchandise, is available at their official site, located here.
