Japanase gaming magazine Famitsu had a rather tasty exclusive in their last issue: Nothing short of screenshots from Resident Evil 5, or at least, what’s currently being called RE5. After all, RE2 was restarted after being nearly finished, and RE4 went through 4 canned versions all at different stages of development, so any screenshots this early really need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
According to Famitsu, and backed up by the images they provided, RE5 will see Chris Redfield returning to our screens for the first time since Code Veronica. It wouldn’t be too surprising if the game will also see his sister Claire involved in some form, but as of right now, all that we know is that it’s going to be a Chris game.
The juiciest part, however, is that the game is headed to Xbox 360 and PS3, though as of yet there’s no hinted release date.
The screenshots provided clearly show Chris in what looks to be a Middle Eastern city environment, India or Egypt. A very different type of environment for the series. The gameplay mechanics are meant to be based on RE4, so expect the same control dynamics and over the shoulder camera view.
But what, you ask, are the enemies? At this time it’s impossible to say, though the shots feature shadows and silhouettes of what could just as easily be normal people as they could be zombies or las plagas. One thing that it is easy to say is that graphically the game is looking awesome, but then after RE4 on the current generation, would we expect anything less?
