According to US Weekly and Rolling Stone, shock rocker Marilyn Manson will be writing, directing and starring in four short films (to be released this winter via his website MarilynManson.com), followed by an as-yet untitled feature-length film. The minimovies, given the collective title PHANTASMAGORIA: THE VISIONS OF LEWIS CARROLL, are based on “visions of Lewis Carroll,” according to Manson. “In fact, I’m playing Carroll.”
The first short to lens will be an exploration of the ALICE IN WONDERLAND characters Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, who in Manson’s interpretation will be portrayed by twin actresses. “The girls playing them are twins who get to have real, genuine sex with each other,” states Manson. “I like to make dreams come true.” (Fango suspects that models The Porcelain Twinz, who have appeared in BLOOD GNOME and 13 EROTIC GHOSTS, have been tapped.)
Apparently fatigued by the mainstreaming of his music, the 36-year-old Manson continues, “I no longer want to make art that other people, particularly record companies, are turning into a product. I just want to make art.” Manson is calling his new artistic/filmic direction “horripilation.” “It’s horrifying, and it’s depilatory,” he explains. “It will horrify the hair off of your legs. The other night I took an 80-year-old taxidermied monkey, set it on fire in the pool and filmed it from beneath with an underwater camera. It was beautiful, like the Titanic, the Hindenburg and King Kong all mixed into one.”
Manson is also set to appear in a cameo alongside Lucy Liu and Michael Chiklis in the upcoming Ghost House Pictures/Columbia film RISE. Written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, RISE centers on a reporter (Liu) who seeks revenge on a clan of vampires responsible for her death. While there is no word yet on what part Manson will play (if casting to type, Fango assumes it will be one of the undead), the musician/artist has apparently grown an uncharacteristic goatee for the role.
