Yeah, it’s a good time to be named Moriarty.
The AICN writer, known to some simply as Drew McWeeny, as that’s his “real” name, just celebrated the birth of his son, Toshiro, on July 6th, and today he turned in a report from the shooting of the episode of Masters of Horror that he and Scott Swan wrote, “Cigarette Burns”, and John Carpenter is directing.
Can you imagine? You struggle to be a screenwriter your whole life, and the first script you get produced is directed by John Carpenter?
So how does it look? Well, according to Moriarty pretty much exactly as it was written;
“They shot what we wrote, except for moments where Carpenter came up with some great ideas that actually expanded upon what we wrote. They gave us complete creative freedom, and then they actually lived up to that promise. Once Carpenter came onboard as director, the producers never gave us another set of creative notes. When they say that this series is all about giving these directors room to play, they’re not kidding.”
