Whoever heard of a remake being changed so that it was actually seen as an original film?
Variety is reporting that Oliver Hirschbiegel, director of the wildly underseen Das Experiment, has officially signed on to direct the film Invasion, which will star Nicole Kidman.
As you might be aware, we last reported that both Oliver and Kidman were working together on the Invasion of the Body Snatchers remake, but the trades are saying that screenwriter David Kajganich has altered the story just enough so that Warner Bros. are seeing it as an original film.
The plot remains somewhat similar, however. Kidman will play a Washington, D.C. psychiatrist whose son may be the key to stopping an alien takeover, which is decimating the human race.
Hirschbiegel had some positive things to say about the reasoning for his signing on to Variety: “This was exactly the kind of studio movie I wanted to do. I’m a specialist in human drama and three-dimensional characters, and I want to emphasize that over big special effects and CGI.” That’s good to hear because at least we know the story will have a bit of depth.
Shooting is expected to begin in September, so we’ll have more for you very soon!
