Stephen King was one of the many critics who stepped up to the crypt this summer to voice their affection for Romero’s Land of the Dead. Perhaps he got bit by the zombie bug…or maybe he’s just grown sick and tired of the cell phone culture. Whatever the case may be, King is jumping into the zombie sub-genre for his next novel.
Yes, his next novel. The one that’s to follow The Colorado Kid which sees release this October.
Entitled Cell, the book is slated to hit shelves sometime in 2006 or ’07 and thanks to the non-profit group called the First Amendment Project, one lucky reader can bid on a chance to have his or name appear in King’s next. Full details on that auction are here, however, here are the details on Cell culled from the auction page:
“Buyer should be aware that ‘Cell’ is a violent piece of work, which comes complete with zombies set in motion by bad cell phone signals that destroy the human brain. Like cheap whiskey, it’s very nasty and extremely satisfying. Character can be male or female, but a buyer who wants to die must in this case be female.”
Bidding begins September 8th and runs until the 18th.
