Mea culpa, everyone—turns out that HOSTEL poster we posted yesterday was a phony, sent in by a hoaxster posing as Eli Roth. “It’s a fake that someone made from existing photos on the Internet, so far as I can tell,” says Roth. “That said, if it is a fake, it’s cool that people are that into the movie that they’re designing posters!” Apologies to Roth and to Screen Gems; we’ll let you know if and when a real HOSTEL poster crops up.
Meanwhile, we posted information yesterday regarding the Motion Picture Association of America putting the kibosh on Lions Gate’s early poster art and marketing materials for SAW II. The grisly image of that Roman numeral being represented by a pair of severed fingers was apparently not approved by the MPAA’s Advertising Administration, which stated, “materials for the film SAW II [that] display dismembered fingers…is unacceptable under Advertising Administration standards.” The new poster art (pictured), which fronts the movie’s official website, omits the severed parts of the fingers, which apparently makes them OK.
