It was announced yesterday that Andrew Rona, who was once partnered with co-president Brad Weston at the Dimension label, is joining Rogue Pictures, the Focus Features genre film label formed in March 2004, as president of production, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
His first assignments? In preproduction at Rogue is the Platinum Dunes remake of The Hitcher; in development is a new version of The Changeling. A slate of direct-to-DVD titles are also ramping up. If you’re unfamiliar with Peter Medak’s 1980 film The Changeling, you might want to check it out since it’s what directly inspired The Ring. Yeah you heard me, the Japanese film that started the wave here was all because of a film from 1980 – crazy huh?
