Variety reports that Francis Lawrence, the music-video veteran who made his feature debut with this year’s CONSTANTINE, will helm Warner Bros.’ long-mooted film version of Richard Matheson’s I AM LEGEND. The adaptation of Matheson’s classic, about one man struggling to survive in a Los Angeles populated by ghouls after a biological war, has been attached to directors including Ridley Scott and Michael Bay in the past, with actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell and Will Smith attached to star. No cast has yet been set for the movie, which was scripted by Mark (THE CELL) Protosevich and will be produced by David Heyman, Akiva Goldsman, Neal Moritz and Erwin Stoff. The studio plans to get the film rolling in early 2006.
