Following successful horror festival showings, Jeremy Haft’s TAMARA will be getting a push on the big screen, prior to its January 31 DVD release from Lions Gate. City Lights Pictures CEO Danny Fisher, one of the film’s producers, gave Fango a few more details.
“City Lights plans to release TAMARA theatrically, in coordination with Lions Gate Entertainment, in select theaters and cities, including New York and Los Angeles, beginning late November or early December,” Fisher says. “We are very excited about the enthusiastic response to the movie stemming from the sold-out October 23 premiere at the New York City Horror Film Festival.
“TAMARA is sexy, scary and fun, and we are thrilled at the audience response to the movie,” he continues. “Jenna Dewan [who has the seductive and scary title role] is going to be a hot major star. She just wrapped production on TAKE THE LEAD opposite Antonio Banderas. City Lights Pictures has also just cast Jenna’s TAMARA co-star, Chad Faust, in our new thriller DESCENT, starring and produced by Rosario Dawson. Finally, with FINAL DESTINATION 3 opening in February, [TAMARA screenwriter] Jeffrey Reddick, creator of that lucrative franchise, will have back-to-back exciting movies out in theaters this winter.”
The New York-based City Lights Pictures has entered into a financing deal with MEGA Films and Trybe Films to produce DESCENT (not to be confused with Neil Marshall’s underground monster fest, THE DESCENT, due from Lions Gate next spring), penned by Talia Lugacy (who will direct) and Brian Priest. DESCENT concerns a college coed (Dawson, of MEN IN BLACK II) who turns into a vengeful seductress after a shocking act of violence. The film begins lensing in New York City November 17.
