After Fangoria reported that the official site for Eli Roth’s HOSTEL was reporting a new February 3, 2006 release date, the man himself got in touch to report that the opening day is still up in the air. “Lions Gate and Screen Gems are figuring out the final release date now,” Roth tells Fango. “The benefit of having two studios co-release your film is that you get far more muscle. The downside is that it’s harder to pick a date, because they are both distributing so many films. For example, we’d never go on the same [Feb. 3] date as WHEN A STRANGER CALLS because that’s a Screen Gems movie, so they have to decide which film goes in that slot. What matters to me, and what the fans should know, is that HOSTEL is in the best hands possible. The two biggest hits this fall by far are Screen Gems’ EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and Lions Gate’s SAW II. I am very lucky to have the best in the business releasing this movie, no matter what date we settle on. I will keep you posted as soon as I know what they decide.” And of course, we’ll let you know as soon as he does.
