Slim plot details could be found on Kei Ohishi’s latest novel Apartment 1303: Some Rentals are Too Good to Be True (how’s that for a title?), but I guess we can take heart in knowing that it has a guaranteed spot on the big screen.
Ohishi also wrote the source material behind Old Boy and The Grudge.
Variety reports MonteCristo Entertainment is partnering up with Amuse Aica and Noble Entertainment to burn Apartment’s pulp frights to celluloid.
MonteCristo also has the horror flicks Land of Canaan and American Nightmare 2 in the pipeline. You’ll likely find the company’s reps at the American Film Market giving all three films a big push.
Production begins on Apartment 1303 in Japan in ’06. It should be noted the powers-that-be also retain the American remake rights.
