Manga Entertainment has announced that Jay (HOSTEL) Fernandez and Matthew (SCREAM) Lillard will be lead voices for the English version of KARAS, a new supernatural Japanese animation production to be released by Anchor Bay. KARAS, the 40th-anniversary production of anime house Tatsunoko Productions (creators of the original SPEED RACER, among others), is set in an alternate Tokyo that humans share with both visible and invisible ghosts and demons. Lillard will voice Eko (pictured), a man once chosen to be a Karas (a guardian of the city) who has turned to evil and intends to destroy humanity, and Hernandez is Nue, a mystical creature in human form who attempts to stop him. Piper (THE CAVE) Perabo is also lending her vocal talents as a priestess named Yurine.
This project will be released on DVD in two volumes: KARAS: THE PROPHECY, coming April 25, and KARAS: THE REVELATION, arriving later this year. PROPHECY will be presented in 16×9-enhanced widescreen and both Japanese (with subtitles) and English soundtracks, and include the following extras:
• Behind-the-scenes Montage: The Making of KARAS
• Interviews with Japanese voice actors, directors and producers
• Original concept/animation comparison
• Original Japanese trailers and TV Spots
Retail price is $19.98.
