The sad news came down yesterday evening, and I’m sorry we missed it until now, that legendary producer/director Dan Curtis passed away in his Brentwood area home at the age of 78.
For those not familiar with the name, Curtis was responsible for some of the most epic miniseries on television, like War and Remembrance and The Winds of War, but genre fans know him best as the creator of the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows”. During his long and varied career, he also served as producer for many other genre titles including both Kolchak TV movies, namely The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler, and most recently served some consultation duties on the ill-fated “Night Stalker” revival starring Stuart Townsend.
The Washington Post actually has a very detailed bio of the prolific producer, which you can read here. Curtis is survived by his daughters, Cathy and Tracy. His wife of 54 years, Norma Mae Klein, died of heart failure on March 7th.
