Guillermo del Toro may never get a chance to make a zombie movie, indeed the man may not even have the inclination to bring the walking dead to the big screen, but this story at least shows that he appreciates the sub-genre and is willing to lend his name to it.
The Hollywood Reporter learned today that del Toro is developing a new horror game with Terminal Reality (developers of BloodRayne and Spy Hunter, among others) called Sundown, which drops players into a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the living dead and other life-threatening monstrosities.
Given del Toro’s outspoken affection for video games, it’s actually surprising that this is the first such project we’ve heard with him attached. “We want to create a real beginning, middle and end to the game and to each set piece of the game too,” del Toro said in a press release. “I want to make some of the atmospheric elements in the game very, very scary.”
Exactly what his involvement in the development of Sundown will be is unknown, but I’m sure he’ll be lending more than a little creative juice to its creation. The man does own the television and movie rights for the game, as well, so perhaps we’ll be hearing about more than just a Sundown game in the near future…
