Disney’s recent thirst for bloodshed continues in its acquisition of Noah and Alexi Hawley’s spec script DEAD IN THE WATER. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being set up at the company’s resurrected Touchstone Pictures, with staunch horror supporter Casey Wolfe shepherding it along. Cider Mill House Pictures’ Damian Saccani is locked in to produce; however, no director has been attached. Noah Hawley has written for TV’s BONES, while Alexi scripted EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING.
DEAD concerns a husband and wife who embark on a cruise-ship getaway to escape the shadow of a painful tragedy in their lives. While at sea, their vacation takes a turn for the gory worst as they find themselves separated during a violent viral outbreak that overruns the ship.
The Mouse House has been making a progressively slow incursion into the genre. Last year, it took a trek through J-horror territory with the Walter Salles-directed DARK WATER, and this past spring, STAY ALIVE which was released under the Hollywood Pictures banner. Touchstone is also gearing up to lens the giant-croc thriller PRIMEVAL with Michael Katleman at the helm and Dominic (THE GRAVEDANCERS) Purcell starring, for release next February.
