Variety reports that Josh Hartnett is in talks to star in the film version of Steve Niles’ popular graphic novel 30 DAYS OF NIGHT for Columbia Pictures and Sam Raimi/Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures. Hartnett will play one of the husband-and-wife sheriff duo of Barrow, Alaska, a town that literally goes dark for a month every year and thus becomes prey for vampires. When the undead arrive, the couple have to decide whether to flee or stand and protect their fellow townspeople. Hartnett made his big-screen debut as Jamie Lee Curtis’ son in HALLOWEEN: H20 and also co-starred in THE FACULTY; he’ll be seen this September in Brian De Palma’s thriller THE BLACK DAHLIA. David (HARD CANDY) Slade will direct 30 DAYS from a script by Stuart (THE MESSENGERS) Beattie and CANDY’s Brian Nelson. You can read Niles’ comments about 30 DAYS’ comic and movie incarnations and his many other projects in Fango #255, on sale later this month.
