Kansas City-based indie film company Quegebo Productions has given Fango the first news on its debut feature, THE HUNTER. Written, directed and co-produced by company owner Jake Jackson, THE HUNTER is truly “a family affair; all the cast is also the crew specializing in different departments,” he tells Fango.
The story follows Magdalene Archer (Kimberly Queen, pictured, who’s also doing the makeup), a vigilante hunter in search of Legion (soundtrack composer Cody Wyoming), an evil being that killed her family years ago. Years of fruitless searching have left her hardened and tough, and when she learns that another evil creature called The Thin Man (co-producer Wesley James) has kidnapped two young children, she sets out to save the siblings so their mother Rachel (makeup FX artist Deb Keeney) will be spared the pain of loss she herself endures every day. As we follow Magdalene on this quest, we learn what trials have made changed her, and when she finally encounters The Thin Man, she is also led into a confrontation with Legion.
THE HUNTER is the first of an intended series of films based on Jackson’s characters and is “meant to pay tribute to the horror, exploitation and spaghetti Western films of the late ’60s and ’70s,” he says. Production begins July 15 in the Kansas City area; for more info, visit the company’s MySpace page.
