The Hallmark Channel in the US continues its trend toward genre-centric programming with FINAL DAYS OF PLANET EARTH, a three-hour original movie scheduled to air October 14 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. Originally broadcast in Canada as a two-part miniseries and never before seen in the U.S., FINAL DAYS begins with a crew of astronauts/miners on a space mission whose captain, William Phillips (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE’s Campbell Scott) awakens from hypersleep to discover that his crew has vanished.
UK viewers can catch this currently on Sky One at 9:00pm on Sundays.
Back on Earth, a series of mysterious accidents and disappearances occur in a city in which, unbeknownst to most, many of its leaders and citizens have been taken over by body-inhabiting aliens bent on domination and control. Liz Quinlan, a member of Phillip’s ill-fated crew, is the only one who knows of this plot—and her body is playing host to the aliens’ queen. Once the remaining citizens discover this, they realize they must look to Phillips himself, who has been held hostage by the aliens and is the only one who knows their full intentions. FINAL DAYS was directed by Robert (TV’s DEAD ZONE) Lieberman from a script by Roger Soffer and Christian Ford (CATEGORY 7: THE END OF THE WORLD); Gil (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) Bellows and Suleka Matthew co-star.
