Independent filmmaker Richard Robinson, one of the writer/directors of the soon-to-be-released MARCUS, passed on some exciting news about his latest project and a horror heavy hitter behind it. “A couple of years ago, the Godfather of Horror, George A. Romero, took me under his wing while I was at the North Carolina School of the Arts,” Robinson tells Fango. “I pitched him the basic concept for a movie called SHARING JOY & SORROW and he did the unthinkable: He lent his name to me as a presenter for this project. I am very happy and proud to announce that Robert Dudelson of Taurus Entertainment is on board to make the movie, and I’m on board as writer and co-producer with the hope to direct either the entire picture or a segment. We are looking toward a 2007 shoot; concept drawings, etc. will be unveiled in the upcoming weeks.”

SHARING JOY & SORROW, inspired by the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and structured similarly to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s SIN CITY, follows nine frightening fables set in “a town riddled with creatures, monsters, murderers and cannibals,” according to Robinson. “This is probably one of the few scripts I’ve written that pushes the envelope. My ultimate goal for this project is to create a film that’s not just a throwback to ’70s and ’80s horror, but to also keep it rich and original for the new generation of horror fans. Ideally, it would be amazing to attract actors like Bruce Campbell, Bill Moseley, Tom Savini, David Hess and Sid Haig, to name a few. The piece lends itself to a large ensemble cast, and it would be awesome to involve the people who best represent the genre with those who are rising stars. That’s if their schedules permit, of course.”

Dudelson most recently served as executive producer of Steve Miner’s DAY OF THE DEAD remake; MARCUS has been given a DVD date of March 6 by distributor Polychrome Pictures. Look for more on SHARING JOY & SORROW as we get it!
