Variety reported some details on the Thomas (THE MIST) Jane directing/starring vehicle THE DARK COUNTRY and Fango uncovered additional info on the project. Currently shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the movie was written by Tab (TARZAN) Murphy and focuses on a couple driving through the Southwestern desert whose trip becomes terrifying after an encounter with a dying hitchhiker. The cast also includes Ron (HELLBOY) Perlman and Lauren (HOSTEL: PART II) German, and Patrick Aiello and Ashok Amritraj of Hyde Park Entertainment are producing for release through Sony’s new Stage 6 Films division.
Jane has brought a couple of his MIST collaborators on board his helming debut: makeup FX chief Greg Nicotero of KNB and conceptual artist Bernie Wrightson. Also on the crew are cinematographer Geoffrey (MUTANT CHRONICLES) Boyle and conceptual designer/comics veteran Tim (THE PUNISHER) Bradstreet. The movie is being shot simultaneously in 3-D (supervised by Ray Zone) and 2-D high-definition, with lensing scheduled to take place through mid-December.
