Fango just got the word that MGM will open the serial-killer chiller THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES nationwide on February 8.
Meanwhile, Box Office Mojo reported that several 2008 fright films have been given new debut dates by their respective distributors. Warner Independent has shifted Michael Haneke’s remake of his own FUNNY GAMES from February 15 to March 14, thus avoiding competition with George A. Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD. Similarly, Paramount moved THE RUINS up a week from April 11 (where the PROM NIGHT remake also currently sits) to April 4.
On the other hand, Roadside Attractions is beginning the platform release of TEETH January 18, the same day J.J. Abrams’ monster opus CLOVERFIELD hits theaters.
Given berths for the first time are MGM/Dimension’s HELLRAISER remake (September 5) and Lionsgate’s inevitable SAW V (inevitably, October 24). And yes there will be a MOTEL HELL redux; originally announced for this past Halloween, it has now been slotted by MGM for October 31 of next year. Now all they have to do is get a script written, hire a director and cast and actually shoot the thing!
