Variety reported the nominees for the 65th annual Golden Globe awards this morning, and Tim Burton’s SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET is in the running in four major categories.
It’s up for Best Motion Picture in the Comedy or Musical division and Best Actor and Best Actress in that category for Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter respectively, plus Best Director. Easily one of the grimmest movies ever to be considered a “Comedy,” SWEENEY TODD does have its moments of dark humor but is also a straightforward Gothic shocker, and Fangorians are highly recommended to check it out when it opens December 21.
The Golden Globes ceremony takes place Sunday, January 13 at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NBC.
