Writer/director Scott (STINK OF THE FLESH) Phillips contacted Fango to give them the exclusive on the release plans for his 2007 flick GIMME SKELTER. “After receiving a handful of what I’d politely call rather crummy offers for distribution of GIMME SKELTER,” he says of his ’70s-style slasher flick, “[star] Kurly Tlapoyawa and I have decided to go into the self-distribution biz ourselves.”
To be released in January under Tlapoyawa’s Burning Paradise Entertainment banner, Phillips says that the DVD “will include commentary by myself, video blogs, a still gallery and more, and is currently available for pre-order.” And here’s where things get tasty for horror fans: The first 67 people to pre-order the disc “will receive a signed and numbered limited-edition DVD, which will be autographed by [GIMME SKELTER actor and original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE star] Gunnar Hansen and several other members of the cast and crew. We expect those to go pretty quickly!”
As for their DIY approach, “This is an interesting experiment for us,” Phillips says. “With the market changing thanks to the Internet and video-on-demand, we’re anxious to see how this goes. If it works out, we expect to follow the same model for our movies in the future. I’m just praying we don’t fall flat on our faces.”
Horror fans shouldn’t let them; swing on over to the official GIMME SKELTER site here – or its MySpace page here to order up a copy (they’re priced at $15 plus $4.25 shipping/handling for orders within the U.S., and $15 plus $6.00 s&h for international purchases). Don’t delay, though; those first 67 copies are bound to be snatched up quickly!
