GUY MADDIN’S DRACULA DEBUTS
Having knocked out audiences at festivals, Guy Maddins DRACULA: PAGES FROM A VIRGINS DIARY makes its U.S. commercial premiere at New York Citys Film Forum, running May 14-27. Using the black-and-white silent-film form and adapting a dance interpretation of Bram Stokers novel by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Maddins movie is a unique take on the vampire legend that combines serious sensuality with dark humor. Zhang Wei-Qiang stars as the Count and Tara Birtwhistle is Lucy; DRACULA marks the first feature in six years for Maddin, who is known for such surreal films as CAREFUL and TALES OF THE GIMLI HOSPITAL.
