R RATING NO GODSEND
Entertainment Weekly reports that Lions Gate is trimming its cloning chiller GODSEND, starring Greg Kinnear, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Robert De Niro, from its previous R-rated form to a PG-13 level. The motive is not squeamishness about the material (after all, Lions Gate was the one company that dared to release HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES), but simply to bring in a larger audience: For us, its a huge amount of money, the mag quotes Lions Gate president Tom Ortenberg about the $20-million production. It was just too risky as an R. Both sex and violence are being cut from the movie, which was originally set for an August opening but has now been pushed to early 2004. Theres no word as to whether the R cut will be released when GODSEND hits video.
