’30 Days of Night’ comic book author Steve Niles has gotten in touch with Fango to speak about his forthcoming projects—one of which will, hopefully, be a big-screen adaptation of his graphic novel BIGFOOT. “We have adapted that into a screenplay with Rob Zombie,” the writer says. “I kept telling myself when I was writing that script to do ‘’Jaws’ in the woods,’ so hopefully something will happen with that one soon. Somebody really needs to undo the sins of ‘Harry and the Hendersons’, and we will have ourselves a really bad Bigfoot. Just like ’30 Days of Night’ gave us nasty, mean, killer vampires, I believe Bigfoot deserves the same treatment.”
Also upcoming should be a movie showcasing Niles’ Cal McDonald character. “The Cal McDonald film is going to happen,” he reveals. “We sold it to MGM, but the biggest problem with Cal is that everyone wants to water him down. They like him, and the fact that he battles ghouls and vampires, but they want to remove the reasons they like him. He’s this obnoxious, drunk drug addict of a detective, and the first thing they want to take out is the drug habit. But I don’t think you can look at Cal as advocating drug use. His life is miserable. It’s hardly Cheech and Chong.”
And what are the chances of DARK DAYS, the comic-book sequel to ’30 Days of Night’, hitting the screen anytime in the future? “I believe it will depend on the DVD sales of ’30 Days of Night’,” Niles says. “I’m waiting to hear something.”
