MORE AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUE FESTS!
On the heels of yesterdays 3-D festival announcement comes news that LAs Egyptian Theatre will host a bunch more fests of interest to genre fans, all programmed by the American Cinematheque. June 5-11 will see a Drive-In/Exploitation Explosion!, with Larry Cohen introducing his cult classics GOD TOLD ME TO and Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and tributes to numerous other B-film luminaries; on June 13-15, a Ray Harryhausen Tribute will include personal appearances by the FX master and screenings of his films, coinciding with Harryhausen receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
The 5th Japanese Outlaw Masters Series (June 19-22) unveils two new Takashi Miike shockers, SUICIDE CLUB and films from other notable and notorious directors, while the 4th Annual Festival of Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction (August 7-27) features a 50th-anniversary screening of WAR OF THE WORLDS, Harry (DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS) K rarely seen 1971 spooker MALPERTUIS: HISTORY OF A CURSED HOUSE, a Czech genre showcase with films by Jan Svankmajer and others plus a host of other new movies from around the world. Finally, the Cant Stop the Musicals festival (May 22-June 1) will give fans a chance to catch Brian De Palmas PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE on the big screen in a new 35mm print on Friday, May 23.
