Western Pennsylvania-based independent movie company Happy Cloud Pictures celebrates its ten-year anniversary with the production of their fifth feature, a horror comedy entitled ‘Coventry Lanes’. Written and directed by Mike Watt and produced by Amy Lynn Best, Coventry Lanes boasts a cast consisting of faces familiar to Happy Cloud fans and horror aficionados in general.
These include Brinke Stevens (‘Nightmare Sisters’), Debbie Rochon (‘The Colour of the Dark’), Best, Robyn Griggs (NBC’s ‘Another World’), Lilith Stabs (‘Malefic’), Nikki McCrea (‘Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut’), Sofiya Mina Smirnova (A Feast of Flesh), Rachelle Williams (Jess Franco’s ‘Take-Away Spirit’), Aaron Bernard (‘Pirates of the Carribbean 3: At World’s End’) and micro-budget favorite Henrique Couto (‘Faces of Schlock’). The film’s hilariously-gruesome effects will be provided by the award-winning artist Eric Molinaris (‘Black Sunrise’).
While the company is keeping the plot of the film under wraps, Best does go on the record to say that ‘Coventry Lanes’ “is something very different for us, especially in recent years. It’s very much like the sexy horror comedies of the ‘80s. Like something you’d catch on ‘USA’s Up All Night’. It’s going to be fun.”
Production officially begins on August 1 in Kittanning, PA, with the beautifully-restored bowling alley King Lanes as the movie’s primary location. To complete the film, Happy Cloud Pictures is teaming up with Canada’s Digger Films and fellow Pittsburgh company Tonerwoods Productions. Coventry Lanes should be complete and ready for release by the end of 2008—“Just in time for Christmas,” says Watt. Associate producers are Sandy and Robert Hall. It is executive produced by Sirens of Cinema owner and publisher Robert Kuiper, Fred Obermiller, Tim Buchholtz, Michael Giannot and Trey Stone.
