Aint it Cool News are reporting that 'Child's Play' creator Don Mancini will be hiring voice-actor Brad Dourif to reprise his role as the infamous Chucky for the upcoming remake.

"It's not like we would ever… who would you get that's better? I mean with Chucky so much of it… and David [Kirschner, the producer] and I talk about this a lot, that because he's a puppet, there’s an aspect of him that feels like he's an animated character, so his voice is such an immense part of it as well as what he looks like. It’s almost like recasting Homer Simpson or something. If you could recast it, you would want the actor to sound kind of like it, but it would feel weird to just be completely different I think.”

The remake itself is said to be returning to it's 'scary' roots and won't be using horror-comedy elements that were used heavily in the most recent Chucky incarnations 'Bride of Chucky' and 'Seed of Chucky'.

“I mean part of that is business in the sense that that is a trend that is sort of galloping over Hollywood right now, but I feel like that’s a trend we can use to our advantage, because it really does dovetail nicely with our main mission, which is to make it really scary. It’s been four years since the last one, so it just seems like the timing is really good now for us to just recreate it in a way”, said Mancini.

But what will it actually take to get this remake in theaters?

"We've had several meetings," Don Mancini tells Bloody-Disgusting, "I pitched my new take to the studio and got their notes. They definitely want to make the movie. But they're busy with the deal-making process at the moment, which is complicated by the fact that the remake rights are owned jointly by Universal and MGM (where we made the original film). Once the two studios iron out their agreement, and David's and my deals are finalized, I can start writing the script."

At this stage the earliest the new 'Child's Play' will be in theaters is Fall 2010.
