Even though it was recently reported that the uber-hot Kate Beckinsale wouldn’t be returning as her Selene character in the ‘Underworld’ franchise and in particular the new prequel ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ it does seem that in fact she will be! Kind of.
While previewing a number of scenes alongside director Patrick Tatopoulos in Venice, Ryan Rotten (Shock Till You Drop) passed along that the prequel will be featuring scenes with Beckinsale shot from Len Wiseman’s first effort back in 2003.
“This prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor, the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja, in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.”
Rhona Mitra stars alongside returning cast members Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy, and Patrick Tatopoulos replaces Wiseman for directing duties and helms from a screenplay by Danny McBride.
‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ will hit theaters January 23, 2009.
