Sam Peckinpah’s brutal and tension filled 1971 thriller ‘Straw Dogs’ is on the current remake slate, and it appears that ‘X-Men’ hero James Marsden will takethe lead role in the revamp previously filled by Dustin Hoffman 38 years ago.
Based on the Gordon Williams novel, ‘The Siege of Trencher’s Farm’, ‘Straw Dogs’ follows Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (Marsden), who moves with his wife to her hometown in the deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation.
Originally set here in Britain ‘Straw Dogs’ has become a cult hit over the decades, especially following its notorious rape sequence featuring Brit actress Susan George. It will be interesting to see how ‘full-on’ this new version will be or whether it’ll be watered down to a more suitable PG-13 audience!? F#CK THAT!
