Variety are reporting this apparently, in a surprising U-turn, actress Neve Campbell is on board the new ‘Scream 4’ sequel to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott. David Arquette and Courteney Cox have already jumped on board but at one stage it appeared that Campbell was having none of it. I wonder what twisted her arm?
Writer Kevin Williamson has also confirmed this on his Twitter page with a brief (but very relevant) Twit: “Yes on Neve guys”.
Of course no-one is really expecting a full-out Sidney-related story this time around, and as her back-story and family history has all but come out of the woodwork in the first 3 installments it seems Campbells involvment may be minimal to say the least (could we even expect an early Cotton Weary-esque death, as in part 3?).
‘Scream 4’ kicks off production in April or May 2010 and is being labelled as the beginning of a ‘new trilogy’. Director Wes Craven is being tapped to helm once again but that’s not official as yet and the Weinstein Company is currently in talks with him.
“I’m heading back to my franchise films,” Weinstein tells the trade. “These films are our strength and we are committed to doing them in style.”
